We are shocked by the news that former Argaum player Courtney Richards has died after a motor bike accident in Plympton yesterday. Courtney was a larger-than-life character, who alongside brother Tom, was an integral part of Dave Sansom’s successful squad which clinched promotion from Devon 1 to The Cornwall and Devon League in 2014-15.
Courtney, a powerful runner, featured mainly at centre for the club, but his versatility meant that he was equally adept in the back row. As well as Argaum, Courtney featured for a number of local clubs including Plymstock Albion Oaks, Ivybridge, Tamar Saracens and we believe was about to join Plympton Victoria.
Well known on the local semi-pro boxing scene, club members followed the self-styled ‘#FatBoy’, and his pursuits in the ring, with keen interest. His passing therefore has resonated across the region’s rugby and boxing community and we send our sincerest condolences to all of his family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.
